Software AG’s open, cloud-based Cumulocity IoT platform (Release 9) brings users a number of key features that support our enhanced microservices and IoT platform-as-a-service capabilities. These include pre-built and ready-to-use dashboards, for individual or groups of devices, with a full range of features and alerts.

We have extended the low power WAN device integration with code-free plug and play integration of lightweight M2M, narrowband IoT and long-range (LoRa) devices, which help to avoid the bitwise manipulation inherent in using of LPWAN.

Moreover, Cumulocity IoT now includes additional high-availability, multi-cluster deployment options to strengthen its carrier-grade offering for service providers.

Key features include:

  • Edge processing: Providing autonomous control of critical local processes using the same code base as the cloud platform. Development and operations are simplified for large scale deployments.
  • Carrier-grade microservices: With an SDK (software development kit) and supporting framework that enables developers to focus on the value-add and leverage the platform capabilities to manage scalability, high availability, quotas, etc.
  • Enterprise Edition: Allows service providers to sell fully re-brandable self-managed IoT platforms to enterprises which leverage the scalability and high availability of the service providers platform instance, whilst minimizing operational overheads.
  • Low Power WAN: Extended code-free integration of many LPWAN device technologies.

Bernd Gross, Senior Vice President, IoT and Cloud, Software AG said: “Our new edge processing brings the power closer to the end-user application, which means devices no longer need to constantly ‘call home’ to a centralized cloud infrastructure for instructions or analysis, but instead they are given the ability to accomplish these tasks on their own.”

This becomes critical as self-contained devices, such as self-driving cars and drones, require more computing to move to the edge. As this becomes a more tangible possibility, companies need to aggregate data collected at the edge for real-time analytics and smart business insights.

Cumulocity IoT R9 edge processing brings new extensions to the platform delivering operational autonomy, reduced data and improved response time. Users can use the same dashboards, analytics models, integrations and applications when operating at the edge or in the cloud, while saving bandwidth and reducing costs and security concerns.
