Big Data may still seem like a buzzword to some, but when political consultants on popular cable news channels dive into the state of presidential politics by discussing the “Big Data” consequences of Florida’s 12.9 million registered voters, you know its time has come.

Then when you hear that the Big Data will be segmented and analyzed by early voters, likely voters, voters by demographic and, of course, by party affiliation- you know that somewhere in the mix is (or at least should be) a Big Data Gateway.

According to Forbes, Big Data and business analytics software revenues worldwide will grow from nearly $122 billion in 2015 to more than $187 billion in 2019, an increase of more than 50% over the five-year forecast period. 

It’s about exponentially greater volumes, more data sources, and, of course, next generation data.  Thanks to IoT. But it’s also about integration.

Big Data is now its own ecosystem, becoming increasingly complex with new capabilities and technologies being launched every day.  The mounting challenges include different lines-of-business that insist on data consumption tailored to their own requirements, including real time analysis, pattern detection, trending and so on. 

A Big Data gateway is ultimately what connects cloud computing to on-premises, APIs enabling enterprise-data-as-a-service, and the ability to integrate consume and manage any of shared, structured and unstructured data.
